One of Nigeria's most-followed relationship voices is now in serious legal trouble. Okoro Blessing Nkiruka — popularly known as "Blessing CEO" — was brought before a Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday, May 15, 2026, after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged her with a N36 million fraud.
The court appearance took place before Justice D.I. Dipeolu at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, where the EFCC's Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 formally arraigned the influencer on two criminal counts — obtaining money under false pretences and fraudulent conversion of funds for personal use.
What She Is Accused Of
According to EFCC prosecutors, Blessing CEO allegedly approached a woman identified as Mrs. Ifeyinwa Nonye Okoye between July 14 and 17, 2024, and convinced her to part with N36 million. The deal? A lease on a six-bedroom detached duplex located at No. 1B Tunbosun Osobu Street, off Kuboye Road, Lekki, Lagos State — a property that the EFCC says Blessing CEO had no legitimate authority to lease.
Investigators allege that the representation was entirely false, making the transaction a violation of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006. A separate count accuses her of converting the funds to personal use, contrary to the Criminal Code Act.
A Partial Refund — But Court Won't Stop
In a dramatic moment during Friday's proceedings, Blessing CEO's defence counsel, P.I. Nwafor, informed the court that his client had already made a partial repayment — returning N24 million of the N36 million to the complainant.
"We are asking for a short adjournment to resolve the outstanding balance," Nwafor told the court. "The nominal complainant has agreed that if the balance is paid, they can prevail on the EFCC to drop the case."
However, the prosecution was having none of it. Counsel S.I. Suleiman argued firmly that the EFCC was not a party to any private settlement, and that the case must move forward as filed.
"The complainant here is the Federal Government of Nigeria," Suleiman said. "We are here for the arraignment. We urge that the defendant take her plea, as that is the business of the day."
Justice Dipeolu sided with the prosecution, ruling that any side discussions between the defendant and the victim had no bearing on the ongoing criminal proceedings.
"The defence and the nominal complainant can have discussions even during the pendency of the charge. It does not affect the proceedings before the court. The defendant will take her plea," the judge ruled firmly.
Pleads Not Guilty
Blessing CEO entered a plea of not guilty to both charges.
Following the plea, the prosecution requested that she be remanded in a correctional facility pending the commencement of trial. Her defence team pushed back, noting that they had only received the charge documents on Thursday — the day before the arraignment — and had not yet filed a bail application.
The defence requested that she be kept in EFCC custody while they prepared the application. Justice Dipeolu granted this, ordering that Blessing CEO remain in EFCC custody.
The case has been adjourned to June 5, 2026, when the full trial is expected to begin.
